Nike Mag

Posted in Uncategorized on July 13, 2008 by gumsole

Of course with all the mass hysteria surrounding the Nike Hyperdunk 2015 a.k.a. McFly, the owner of the original full working movie prop (not a replica created by an enthusiast) is letting a half-pair go on eBay. The McFly/Hyperdunk 2015 has been beaten to death in online media world hitting every single corner, however this auction provides an interesting story as the owner of the shoe was an actual electrical technician on site at the Nike Sport Research Lab and was behind the building of the shoe. Originally created for a scene that never materialized, the Nike Mag (as seen on the heel and named for its magnetic properties) was supposed to be used in a fictional game of Slamball which is likened to 3D racquetball. As mentioned only one shoe is available and not in the best of conditions however definitely a one of a kind piece to own. Oh, worth mentioning, a photocopied sketch of the original plans by designer… yeh you guessed it Tinker Hatfield will also be provided. What HASN’T the guy done?

Japanese designer Yuichi Yoshii is already an architectural giant in his field for meshing avant-garde styling with punk rock sensibilities in creating buildings that are described as masterpieces. After several years of being the creative director for Loveless, Yoshii now adds another notch to his belt by venturing into new territory with his project called The Contemporary Fix. The first structure to be a part of the Contemporary Fix series will be the Mastermind Japan store. To undertake this project Yoshii took apart his famous Aoyama restaurant leaving only the foundation. He then added different metal beams and rods from construction sites to give the store a raw punk rock edge. The exterior is emblazoned with Mastermind’s signature skull and cross bone logo. The flagship store stands as a piece of structural art as well as a functional retail space.

Bape camo backpack and waistpack

Posted in On the back on July 13, 2008 by gumsole

Bape’s signature camouflage pattern with its incorporation of the ape head has been a staple of the brand for years. Bape has changed the color of the pattern several times and has put the design on everything from their shoes to hooded sweatshirts. Bape once again resurrects the camo in its original colors and matches it with backpacks as well as waist packs just in time for the back to school fall season. The new items are simply designed for easy, accessible use and consist of snap back compartments. The color of the camo differs only slightly on the bags, with one set being a darker shade of the same pattern. The bags are now available in Bape stores around the world.

Neckface x Vans

Neckface, the celebrated urban graffiti artist who has used blank spaces on buildings, skateboard and clothing items for his unique pieces has once again hooked up with Vans for a continuation of their collaboration. This time around Neckface combines his signature abstract style with several of Vans classic shoe designs. Some of the standouts this season include a pair of chukkas with the recognizable horror influenced monster figures Neckface often uses. The boxes that the shoes come in also include Neckface’s unique drawings. The Neckface and Vans collaboration seems to be a fruitful pairing that will last for many seasons to come.
